This is a nice article about Alana's great week.

Iciss plays, Libs still lose
New York lost to a very good Indiana team, 91-70, but Iciss got her butt off the bench, despite whatever injury issues she's dealing with. She only played seven minutes and only managed to pull down one rebound while committing one turnover and did not attempt a shot, but at least she's playing!

Injury update for Mistie and Iciss
Iciss is supposedly wearing a soft cast on her left hand, and it seems like she's on the Liberty's injured list as a result. (The WNBA web site is not too helpful about such matters.)
Additionally, Mistie turned or twisted her ankle in practice, but Comets head coach Van Chancellor doesn't think it's too bad. Here's an audio link about the Comets' injury bug.

Washington beats the Lynx, 90-75
Alana had another stellar game tonight to lead the Mystics over the Minnesota Lynx, 90-75. She had 25 points on 10-16 shooting, and was 3-4 from three. She also hit 2-3 free throws, and added 2 blocks, 2 steals, 3 assists and 2 rebounds. She again had a little foul trouble, ending the night with 4 and committed 2 turnovers.
Latasha "Tot" Byears also had a standout night off the bench with 20 points and 14 rebounds and helped the Mystics dominate in the paint 46-26.

Mistie Williams played only 7 minutes in the win over the Monarchs, but was 2-2 from the field and pulled down one rebound. She picked up 3 fouls in those seven minutes, though.

Mo and Sting get the better of Alana and Mystics, 73-63
It sounds like Mo and Alana were guarding each other for much of the night, and each were called for offensive fouls against the other. Mo bloodied Alana's lip on one offensive foul, and finally got Alana to foul out on a charging call against her.
Alana was 5-9 and 1-1 from the line for 11 points. She added 2 blocks and 2 assists, but also had 5 turnovers and 6 fouls, 2 of which were offensive fouls.
Monique had 13 points on 4-8 shooting, 1-4 from three, and 4-4 from the line. She also had 4 rebounds (2 O-boards), 2 steals, and an assist, along with 4 fouls and 2 turnovers, both offensive fouls, and I believe, both against Alana.
Charlotte was down for most of the first three quarters, but really came on when Alana fouled out in the fourth. They held a 20 point advantage in free throws, shooting 28-37 to Washington's 8-14...

Laura Kurz to transfer
Apparently Laura Kurz is transferring to Villanova. She valiantly played out of position in the post this past year, but didn't get a lot of minutes. She was not as quick as the players ahead of her, and had difficulty creating her own shot. It sounds like Villanova might be a perfect fit for her...
Regardless, she will be missed. Thank you, Laura!

Houston beats Seattle, 84-59
Mistie played 12 minutes in the win over the Storm, but only shot 1-3 and made 1-2 free throws for 3 points on the night. She also pulled down 4 rebounds in an otherwise quiet performance.

Sting fall to LA, 72-65
Monique started and was the high-scorer for the Sting with 19 points, but they were unable to pull off the win against Lisa Leslie and the Sparks. Currie went 4-11 from the floor, missing all 3 of her threes, but was 11-14 from the line. She also added 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals with 2 turnovers in 30 minutes of play.
The Sting managed to pull within 2 during the last minute, but were unable to sustain their momentum. While their record is now 0-2, they are playing more competetively than last year...

Mystics whallop Liberty, 95-60
Alana set a new WNBA record by starting off her night going 11-11 before missing her last shot, a buzzer-beater to end the third quarter. She ended up with 25 points in 24 minutes, adding 4 steals, 2 assists, a block, and 2 rebounds. She was also 3-3 from behind the arc. Her only negatives were two missed free throws, 1 turnover, and 1 foul. The Liberty were discombobulated from the get-go, only scoring 8 points in the first quarter, and were completely unable to handle Beard.

Comets lose in season opener
The Comets lost to the Silver Stars, 79-63. Mistie only played two minutes, but made her only layup and had 1 assist. Unfortunately, she missed both of her free throws, and added 1 foul.

Liberty lose, Iciss on bench
Iciss Tillis did not play in last night's season opener against the Connecticut Sun. The Liberty lost, 91-74.

Charlotte falls to the Sky, 83-82
Chicago pulled out a close one against Mo Currie and the Sting, with Jia Perkins making all three of her foul shots with one second to go. Mo did not start, but played 19 minutes and had 7 points, 3 assists, and 1 rebound. She shot 2-5 from the field with both baskets coming in the first half, and was 3-5 from the line. She also had 4 turnovers (one was an offensive foul) and ended up with 4 fouls. Her second, third, and fourth fouls all came in a flurry at the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth.
Dukies in the WNBA
In addition to Alana with the Mystics, we now have Monique Currie with the Charlotte Sting, Mistie Williams with Houston, and Iciss Tillis with the New York Liberty. I'm going to try to keep track of their goings-on in the league this summer...
