Alana in the All-Star game

Well, despite Alana's confidence, the West again defeated the East, 122-99. Alana had a difficult shooting night, going 1-9 with 2 points. She did have 5 rebounds, a block and two assists in 20 minutes of play, and was running the point when Dawn Staley was out.

On a side note, Lisa Leslie dunked in the final minute of the game, but only because everyone cleared out of the lane and spectated.

U-19s cream Hungary

Gail's U-19 team defeated Hungary 82-42 in an exhibition match in Budapest. The American team is training there in preparation for the U-19 World Championship, to be held July 15-24 in Tunisia. Abby Waner had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals, going 2 for 5 from three-point range. Abby started, and was one of four Americans to score either 12 or 13 points, in a balanced effort.

Alana named an All-Star reserve!

According to Cam, Alana has been named to the WNBA All-Star game as a reserve. The reserves are voted on by the coaches, while the starters are voted on by fans, not without much controversy.

Congratulations to Alana on this well-deserved honor.

Abby Waner's "golden opportunity"

The Rocky Mountain News has a great article up about Abby Waner, with quotes from Coach G and Abby herself about her experiences with the U-19 team. Here's one little snippet from the story:

She considers herself a goal setter, and those goals include multiple national titles at Duke, a career in the WNBA, a berth on the Olympic team, most likely in 2012, and possibly playing in Europe. After basketball, she's hoping to enter broadcasting for ESPN, CBS or another major network.

I like how she thinks!

Site updates

I'm sorry for the infrequency of posts recently. I'm in the process of moving, with all of the crap that entails (buying the new house, selling the old, weeding through junk, etc.), and I just had knee surgery, with the prospect of more on the horizon. Additionally there hasn't been a ton of true Duke stuff happening.

Eventually, things will return to normal...

goDuke site change

GoDuke.com, Duke's official sports website, is changing hosts, from collegesports.com to new media networks.

The new look is not yet the greatest with quite a few design flaws, mostly relating to accessibility (fixed font-sizes, fixed window width, difficult color choices). They will be offering premium audio and video, which may mean changes for those who watched home games live on the internet last season.
